An expert in reading and early literacy of children in early childhood settings, as well as writing development during the early school years, Schmidt received her B.A. from Wooster (1975) and her M.A. from Ashland University (1992). She currently a doctoral student at Kent State University, where she is completing a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction with a specialty in early literacy.
